Himalayan Salt Rock Lamps

I got a set of these salt rock lamps for my birthday this year.  I would say that, price-wise, your best bet would be to order these salt rock lamps online.  I have found that specialty healing shops, etc. seem to overprice them and charge a lot.   Clicking the picture above will bring you to a set of two salt rock lamps that are available on Amazon.

If you know me, you know that I really like Himalayan salt rock home decor, whether it be lamps, candle holders, solid plates of it, etc.  The warm, rich color that the rock turns when illuminated is beautiful and there are supposed to be a multitude of health benefits associated with these lamps (though as far as I know, this has not been proven).  Besides offering a gentle glow to soothe and calm, these lamps are said to emit negative ions, which help with reducing dust, bacteria, pet odor, insomnia, idor, allergies, sinus issues, depression, migraines, anxiety, fatigue, colds, ADHD, and asthma [source]. 

These lamps are one of my most favorite things I have ever received.  I love the soft glow, the fact that they are a conversation piece in my home and office (I have one at home and one at work on my desk), the fact that no two are the same and just the way I feel when I look at them.  I definitely think I will have these lamps for many years to come.

Ikea Picture Frame Project

I took a picture frame and a poster that I bought at Ikea and...

I cut the poster down and turned it into this!  Please excuse the reflection of me in the glass.  I have to admit that I saw this poster with this frame on display at Ikea like 6 months ago but I have been dreaming about it since we moved into our apartment.  I love the mix of the ornate/feminine frame and the yellow/green tinged flowers.  I think together it looks beautiful!  This is just the thing I needed to do to add something whimsical to our bedroom entrance area.

Satin Pillow Case {Burgundy} Review

I have read a lot about how sleeping on a satin (or silk) pillow case is supposed to make your hair more manageable and less unruly in the morning so I decided to order one off of Amazon.  I decided on this one since it was reasonably priced and I was able to choose from a multitude of colors. 

The pillow case arrived quickly and was packaged well (almost too well, I don't think a pillow case needs to be sent in a huge box with a bunch of large bubble padding, an envelope would do me just as well).  It fits a standard size, foam pillow perfectly (you can get them in king size as well) and zips close so that you don't have to feel the foam, the pillow is all covered by pillow case material.

Overall, I don't know if I really see a difference when I wake up in the morning.  Supposedly, sleeping on a satin or silk pillow case allows the hair to slide across it rather than snag in it like it would with a cotton pillow case.  I have also read that is is less drying to hair than a cotton pillow case.  I have to say, my hair does not look any better in the morning.  It is still frizzy, sticking up funny and poofy.  It definitely does not help me to have better waves in the morning over a regular cotton pillow case.

But, this pillow case does make me feel fancy and I enjoy sleeping on it, which I think everyone needs these little things that they can look foward to.  I think I will enjoy it even more when the weather is really warm here, I think it will feel less damp than cotton can gets since it absorbs humidity.  The fact that you can get them in a lot of different colors is great for different personalities and different decorating sitations.  Check it out if this is something you are interested in!

Heavenly Hostess: Serve with Grace {Review}

Heavenly Hostess is a cute little website that I saw advertised recently in a local Orange County magazine.  I had just moved into a new apartment so my mind had been swirling with ideas of things for the home.  I haven't bought anything from this site (yet) but I am in love with the how they take practical items and make them so that they can be for an individual who wants to stand out. 

Kitchen accessories are one thing that I think can use some pizazz and I think that Heavenly Hostess does it well.  A modern twist on vintage-style items and the use of unique fabrics really appeals to me.  Even though the cocktail aprons are expensive ($125), I still think they are nice and I can keep dreaming about them.  Afterall, you can't find an item like this in a regular store and it would definitely be worth the money for the effort that went into making it.  Speciality shops do carry their items but I haven't ventured out to any to check them out yet.

I think that out of everything I have looked at, I am eyeing this little apron the most.  It's flashy but still darling and I just might be able to pair it with something else and it wouldn't even look like an apron!

Overall, I am loving this site and the items that are made.  They look well made, with love and heart put into them.  They also occasionally do trunk shows and other appearances around Southern California so maybe I will be able to check them out in "real life" in the near future.
